Interview with Romas Zabarauskas, director and screenwriter of the movie The Writer, interviewer Edvinas Pukšta
"Zabarauskas is a filmmaker and activist from Lithuania. He is openly gay and courageously fights for the rights of the LGBT+ community. In 2021, he sent an open letter to the daughters of the President of Lithuania, G. Nausėdas, to convince their father to stop inciting homophobia in Lithuania.
After 14 years of marriage, divorced IT engineer Dima goes to New York for a job interview and meets Kostas, an emigrated Lithuanian writer. They were friends once, when they served in the Soviet army in faraway Stavropol. But they haven't spoken in 30 years, since Kostas decided to go to America. Now they meet again.
The Writer is a minimalist drama about guilt, regret, fear, religion and bisexuality. The tender performances of the two American actors in the lead roles create an intimate atmosphere.
""They both have some similartities in real life."" - Romas Zabarauskas about the two leads.
