Interview with Mart Kivastik, the director and screenwriter of "Stairway to Heaven", interviewer Edvinas Pukšta.
"Mart Kivastik has said: ""The idea of the film is that there is no more time to sit around, you have to live here and now. Is a person still able to enjoy life when faced with middle age and aging?""
Working on the novel and script gave Mart Kivastik an opportunity to go back in time as well. ""Stairway to Heaven"" is dedicated to the memories of painter Lembit Saarts and actors Aleksander Eelmaa and Raivo Trass. Lembit Saarts was Georg's prototype and the film uses his paintings.
With his last breath, Uu's friend entrusts him with a secret - how to go to the past. Uu is an engineer and doesn't believe in miracles, but the trick works. He drives back to first loves, brotherly fights, arousing passions, wet kisses, thirst for independence, illegal music records, and bumpy KGB interrogations. One of the main characters in film is the city of Tartu.
