An interview with Jos Stelling, the director of "Natasha's Dance", interviewer Massimo Iannetti.
"Jos Stelling says ""Natasha's Dance"" will be his final film. Stelling's film career started impressively. His debut film, ""Mariken van Nieumeghen,"" had its world premiere in the Cannes competition program in 1975, making it the first Dutch film to be featured at Cannes.
Throughout a 50-year career, Stelling has established himself as a master of auteur cinema. He is a self-taught filmmaker who did not attend film school. In addition to his work as a director, he has also contributed to the art of cinema as the owner of several art-house cinemas in his hometown of Utrecht.
""Natasha's Dance"" is a masterpiece of cinematic art in its purest form.
“It’s about loneliness and saying goodbye to everything, but I want to tell it in a funny way – fairytale kind of way,” said Stelling in an interview with Massimo Iannetti.
When the film's protagonist, Daantje, was a child, his mother told him that somewhere a girl was waiting for a boy who dances beautifully. As an adult, Daantje becomes a lonely homeless man who serendipitously meets the former ballerina Nataša. This marks the beginning of a masterful play with narratives through sensitive visual storytelling.
