An interview with Marianna Kaat, the director of "The Last Relic", interviewer Massimo Iannetti.
"„I wanted to make like a portrait of Russia on the basis of Yekaterinburg.“ - Marianna Kaat
The director, screenwriter and producer Marianna Kaat has made a documentary about contemporary Russia called ""The Last Relic"". Filmed over four years, it tells the story of the rebels living in the heart of the absurdist society of Russia, where only a handful of dissidents dare to oppose Putin and his aggressive plan to launch a full-scale invasion of Ukraine. The film maps out an environment in which, in order to survive, one must navigate between propaganda and Putin's brainwashed disciples, who dream of restoring the glory of a former empire.
""The Last Relic"" was co-produced between Estonia and Norway, with Marianna Kaat's own production company Baltic Film Production producing on the Estonian side. Kaat's mission in producing non-fiction films and series is to convey a strong social message using artistic research methods.
