Interview with the director of "Melchior the Apothecary", interviewer Andrei Liimets (in Estonian)
"I like history, the long and shorter retrospectives of the past interest me." - Elmo Nüganen
Yes, your eyes are not deceiving you, this really is a double screening of the Melchior films! "Melchior the Apothecary" and "Melchior the Apothecary. The Ghost" are directed by Elmo Nüganen, based on Indrek Hargla's book saga of the same name. At the centre of the stories is Melchior Wakenstede, a 15th century pharmacist who is also known as the best detective in medieval Tallinn. The two films and their ghostly mysteries have attracted more than 200 000 viewers to Estonian cinemas, and there is still a chance to join the numbers - the films are staying on the Estonian big screens after the festival ends. We are anxiously waiting for Nüganen's next film in the Melchior trilogy, set to premiere next spring.
BNFF TV studio is welcoming Elmo Nüganen, the director of both Melchior films. Nüganen - a stage director, film director and acto - is among Estonia's best-known cultural figures. In recent years, his mission has been to bring Melchior to screen, but he is also renowned for directing Names Engraved in Marble (2002) and
1944: Forced to Fight (2015).
