An interview with Paula Ortiz, the director of "Teresa", interviewer Javier Garcia Puerto
"Saint Teresa of Avila was a 16th-century nun, known today as a reformer and mystic in the Roman Catholic Church. Her entry into the convent had an unexpected consequence - just a few years after taking up residence in the monastery, she fell into a coma and, as a result, was unable to walk for a couple of years. She was a woman, who was very much ahead of her time, a natural leader and experimenter. Teresa saw the cloister as the place, where women could truly be free, as the entrance is limited to everybody else. However, Paula Ortiz's version of Teresa's life does not necessarily correlate with reality and falls more into the realm of creative interpretation of history. In the film ""Teresa"", the central theme is faith, which may not necessarily have a religious meaning.
Director Ortiz has stated that her goal is to create stories that challenge the world in which we live. Films are a means to view life from a different perspective and provide an opportunity to raine awareness on various subjects. She aims to leave room for a certain flexibility in the mind, allowing viewers to experience these emotions in their own way.
