"I wanted to make an absurd scene in the film to make the audience think about the things that happened there because the characters in the film don't argue about what happened and I think this is something that is happening in Syria – no one argues what's happening and it's a fact that the Assad regime is still there."

“The Taste of Apples is Red” is Syrian filmmaker Ehab Tarabieh’s debut which was also screened at this year’s Toronto Film Festival. In 2010 he took part in creating an amateur film about the violation of human rights and freedom under the Israeli occupation, and used some of the material for his short film “Smile, and the World Will Smile Back”. In film “The Taste of Apples is Red” Ehab Tarabieh shows how we can transform conflict into peace, how peace has to become the new state of mind, of consciousness, so we can move forward onto a planet of “one people, one world”.
