Interview with Triin Ruumet, director and screenwriter of the movie Dark Paradise, interviewer Edvinas Pukšta
"Being overwhelmed by the difficulties of the filmmaking process, Ruumet has thought about a career change several times, but deep down she doesn't really want it and always returns to the unfinished project.
She worked on the film for five long years and first started writing the script even before her debut film ""The Days That Confused"", which was completed in 2016.
In her work, she is always more concerned with the darker part of human nature. This also sums up her new film ""Dark Paradise"", where the main character Karmen, a troubled young woman on the verge of ruining her life, finds herself in the hedonistic under-side of today's youth.
Ruumet brings out that she chose the main protagonists Rea and Jörgen right at the beginning of production - they had meetings even before the first draft was completed. The two work together with undeniable chemistry and are deeply immersed in the script, setting up rules of not discussing their roles with each other to keep the performance more true to life. The director also emphasizes that she likes to give the actors freedom, although she has a concrete script. Having a clear script is in her eyes a way to inspire more bending of the rules by the actors.
